"In the past, the attic may have seemed too small, it may have seemed cold in winter and hot in summer. Now, however, in memory recaptured through daydreams, it is hard to say through what syncretism the attic is at once small and large, warm and cool, always comforting."- Bachelard

This Attic is a fashion boutique in Bogota. It was founded with the aim of bringing couture to Colombia from designers around the globe. The principal branch of the business is to import exclusive content curated by the owner of the shop. In parallel, this company also has a full service manufacturing facility where alterations and custom clothing is made.

We worked with the client to develop the name, the brand, and the ambiance of the shop. We designed the physical space to resonate with the concept of an attic, a place where it "is at once small and large, warm and cool, always comforting." This framework prompted us to cloak horizontal and vertical planes of the interior with weathered wood to echo the feeling of an attic. Dispersed throughout are custom light fixtures that are slivers of light akin to the sun's rays that pierce through the gaps between wooden planks in old roofs. The most significant design gesture is in the double height lightwell where an intricate geometrical structure was inserted. This design was extracted from a study of dormers found in traditional gabled roofs and was accentuated to create a lightfilled space that limited the solar radiation in this part of the building and provided privacy.

/ Evocative Spaces that Resonate

The interior spaces we design are anchored, congruent with a conceptual framework, and are evocative in that they evoke deeper connections by resonating with inhabitants on multiple levels. The experience of walking through the Attic helps visitors draw prallels with rich memories through the materials and light.
